Black & White – Combine It Your Way

We use the phrase ‘black and white’ when we want to indicate that there are only two choices available and it is obvious that one is the right choice and the other is the wrong one.

Black and white in dressing offers you many choices and all are right.

Mostly black with less white usually suits dark-haired women whereas over 50% white with less black usually suits blonde, grey or softer-haired women. Generally softer versions of black and white like polka dots are favoured by Introverts and the more dramatic patterns are favoured by Extroverts as in the Marcy Tilton pattern below. If you are a woman with Autumn colouring, look around for black with beige or cream contrast to soften the black & white impact.

Black and white looks great worn over a black skirt or pants as it breaks up the ‘all-black uniform’ that some women wear. If that is not your style, consider a black and white scarf, necklace, belt, handbag or shoes to add a touch of style to an all-black outfit. Any of these are a great addition to black pants and a white top or shirt as they bring the two colours together and you step out from ‘safe and boring’ to ‘stylish’.
